Dell/Red Hat JBoss-Based Solutions Offer Simplified Migration From Legacy ApplicationsAugust 8, 2007; 02:59 AM The availability of Red Hat operating platform and middleware solutions on Dell PowerEdge™ servers offers customers enhanced interoperability, choice and substantial cost savings in their IT environments. The open-source solutions are available directly from Dell and allow customers to replace costly legacy application infrastructures with Red Hat's leading open-source middleware. Customers also can choose either a Windows or Linux operating system to best fit their needs. The combined solutions enhance cross-platform interoperability and provide the affordable, flexible benefits of open-source solutions. The Dell/Red Hat solutions combine standards-based servers from Dell with the customer's choice of the JBoss Enterprise Application Platform or the Red Hat Application Stack, which includes Red Hat Enterprise Linux, JBoss Enterprise Application Platform and MySQL. Each solution delivers easy cross-platform interoperability that enables customers to customize solutions. The Dell/Red Hat offering features three solutions:
"Businesses of all types and sizes are increasingly turning to open-source solutions for operating systems, middleware and databases that simplify their IT environments," said Kevin Kettler, Dell’s chief technology officer. "LinuxWorld provides us with a great forum to address this growing market. Our unique position to deliver low-cost solutions without compromising quality, combined with a strong industry partnership with Red Hat, offers customers a compelling way to address open-source middleware needs that ultimately improve the bottom-line.” In addition to the companies' combined solutions, Dell, AMD and Red Hat are collaborating to create a Java Solutions Center. The Austin, Texas center will further the development and optimization of open-source Java technologies. "AMD is pleased to be working with Red Hat and Dell to create a Java Solutions Center, where we will develop and optimize Java-based solutions for our joint customers," said Terri Hall, vice president, Commercial Systems Marketing, AMD. "Together, our teams will collaborate to optimize open-source middleware solutions from JBoss, a recognized leader in the Java space, running on AMD Opteron™ processor-based systems from Dell." “The middleware market represents a $5 billion opportunity, with some customers spending as much as 70 percent of their IT budget maintaining legacy applications,” said Mike Evans, vice president of corporate development, Red Hat. “Our partnership with Dell and AMD ensures that customers who have embraced the benefits of an open-source IT environment have the support and technology they need for successful implementation.” To further demonstrate Dell’s commitment to the Linux community, this year’s LinuxWorld Conference & Expo features an “open-source” keynote address by Dell CTO Kettler. He will address topics and ideas solicited from the Linux community via Dell’s corporate blog, Direct2Dell and Dell’s customer suggestion Web site, IdeaStorm.
