COBOL Applications Get Access to Enterprise Data without Source Code Modification

seeMore Technologies & Solutions, a leading provider of enterprise class data products, announced that is has added the ability to automatically migrate and access COBOL Files stored in relational databases and provides this capability without the need of source code modification.

“We have worked with Micro Focus to provide the ability for standard COBOL I/O statements, in existing COBOL programs, to transparently and in real-time, store information in relational databases. This provides all of the benefits of relational data access without the costs and risks involved of rewriting COBOL READ, WRITE etc as embedded EXEC SQL statements.” explains Phillip Carruthers, CEO, seeMore Technologies. “Tests have shown that this can be achieved without performance degradation and in fact in many cases performance actually improves”.

Support is also provided for accessing existing COBOL Files as if they were relational and as such speed and flexibility of migration initiatives are greatly enhanced.
